SalMar is committed to respecting and promoting human rights and decent working conditions across all operations and throughout the value chain. This policy ensures compliance with international standards and national legislation, while fostering a culture of dignity, equality, and respect.
SalMar’s Human Rights Policy applies across all business areas. Suppliers, business partners and third parties engaged in activities with or for SalMar are required to adhere to the principles of SalMar’s policies.
The Board of Directors holds ultimate responsibility for human rights compliance. The Senior Management ensures integration of human rights principles into company policies and operations. All employees and partners are responsible for adhering to SalMar’s ethical guidelines.
Managers and employees must uphold SalMar’s human rights commitments in daily operations. Personnel responsible for procurement and the sustainability team ensure supplier compliance through risk assessments and due diligence. All employees are encouraged to report concerns through SalMar’s whistleblowing channel.
SalMar conducts regular risk-based due diligence in line with the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the Norwegian Transparency Act. This includes identifying and assessing actual or potential adverse impacts, implementing mitigation measures, and tracking results. Findings and actions are disclosed in SalMar’s sustainability reporting and in SalMar’s annual Transparency Act statement.
SalMar supports and respects internationally recognized human rights, including the International Bill of Human Rights, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the ILO conventions. The company prohibits child labour, forced labour, and discrimination, and upholds rights to freedom of association, fair wages, safe working conditions, and equal opportunities.

Human rights impacts, incidents or complaints | Human rights commitments
Despite SalMar’s strong commitment to respecting human rights, incidents and reports of potential breaches have occurred. SalMar acknowledges that there is an inherent risk of human rights violations in a diverse workforce where employees from different cultures and backgrounds work closely together. SalMar is committed to respecting and promoting human rights and decent working conditions across all operations and throughout the value chain. Ensuring that human rights are upheld in every department of the Group is essential to safeguarding employees and fostering a culture of dignity, equality, and respect.
Freedom of association | Collective bargaining
SalMar recognises freedom of association and collective bargaining as fundamental rights. All employees, regardless of contract type, may join unions and participate in social dialogue. Collective agreements cover most employees, while others have individual contracts governed by internal guidelines and national legislation.
Employee representation | Social protection
Employee representatives participate in key governance arenas, including the Board, ensuring that workers’ perspectives inform strategic decisions and strengthening transparency and trust within the organisation. All employees are covered by social protection schemes that provide financial security during major life events, supporting wellbeing and stable working conditions across the Group.
Discrimination and harassment
There is an inherent risk of discrimination or harassment in any work environment. Such incidents can damage workplace culture, reduce trust, increase turnover and lead to legal or financial consequences. These risks underline the need for prevention, early intervention and a robust process for handling concerns and cases.
SalMar is committed to zero tolerance for child labour, forced labour, discrimination, and harassment, including gender-based violence across all operations and in the supply chain. The company commits to full compliance with internationally recognized human rights standards and national legislation. SalMar will conduct annual due diligence assessments, ensure corrective actions where risks are identified, and maintain transparent reporting in line with the Norwegian Transparency Act and OECD guidelines.
SalMar implements systematic due diligence processes to identify and mitigate human rights risks. All employees receive training on ethical guidelines and labour rights. Supplier evaluations include human rights criteria, and compliance is verified through audits and certifications such as ASC and Global G.A.P GRASP. SalMar maintains a whistleblowing channel to report concerns and ensures remediation where necessary. SalMar is also committed to maintaining ongoing engagement with local communities to ensure their involvement.
