Purpose

SalMar is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, suppliers, and partners. This policy ensures that health and safety considerations are integrated into all operations and decision-making processes, with the goal of preventing accidents and work-related injuries.

Scope

SalMar’s HSE Policy applies across all business areas. Suppliers, business partners and third parties engaged in activities with or for SalMar are required to adhere to the principles of SalMar’s policies.

Governance and Accountability

Roles and Responsibilities

The Board of Directors holds ultimate responsibility for HSE performance. Executive management ensures that HSE requirements are embedded in operational planning and execution. All managers and employees share responsibility for compliance and continuous improvement.

Managers ensure that employees receive necessary training and information to perform tasks safely. Employees are responsible for following HSE procedures and reporting hazards or incidents. Suppliers and partners must comply with SalMar’s HSE requirements when planning and executing services.

Monitoring and Reporting

HSE performance is monitored through regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments. All incidents and near misses are reported in SalMar’s internal systems and investigated to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Compliance with legal and internal HSE requirements is verified through systematic reviews. Key HSE metrics are disclosed annually in the company’s sustainability disclosure.

Strategic Framework and Targets

SalMar’s strategy focuses on preventing accidents and work-related injuries, fostering a strong safety culture, and continuously improving through training, risk assessments, and employee involvement. The company aims for zero harm to people.

The following sections outline the Group’s most material impacts, risks and opportunities, along with strategic targets established.

Impacts

Work-related injuries | Periodic high workload

The aquaculture industry involves significant safety hazards, particularly for employees working at sea and in processing facilities. SalMar reports several workrelated injuries each year and recognizes injury rates as a key health and safety indicator. Different working environments expose employees to different risks. At sea, staff operate on moving surfaces in harsh weather and with heavy equipment, increasing the likelihood of crush injuries, slips and falls. In processing facilities, fastpaced production with sharp tools, forklifts, slippery floors and high noise levels can lead to cuts, falls, hearing strain, cold exposure, repetitivestrain injuries and respiratory irritation.

Seasonal and biologically driven peak periods can also lead to temporarily increased workloads, which, if not managed responsibly, may contribute to stress and fatigue.

Risks

Hazardous working conditions

If risks inherent to seabased operations and processing facilities are not managed responsibly, they may result in accidents, injuries or operational disruptions. Maintaining safe working conditions is critical both for protecting employees and for ensuring stable and efficient operations.

Opportunities

Passionate and effective workforce | Ensuring good working conditions

A motivated and engaged workforce represents a key opportunity for SalMar. Built on the company’s vision “Passion for Salmon”, strong employee involvement and empowerment contribute to high performance and operational excellence. Ensuring safe working conditions, good health and a supportive work environment lay the foundation for a committed workforce capable of driving longterm value creation, both for internal workforce and in the value chain.

Targets

SalMar aims to maintain zero fatalities, reduce work-related injuries, and continuously improve safety performance through proactive measures and employee engagement.

Operational Measures

HSE is integrated into SalMar’s internal control system and daily operations. Activities include regular risk assessments, employee training, and systematic planning to minimize hazards. All employees and managers are empowered to stop work if unacceptable risks are identified. Continuous improvement is achieved through experience sharing, audits, and active involvement of personnel across the organization.
