Purpose

SalMar is committed to producing salmon in a way that meets the highest standards of food safety, fish welfare, and sustainability. This policy ensures that no genetically modified organisms (GMO) or growth hormones are used in any part of SalMar’s operations, including broodstock, feed, and finished products.

Scope

This policy applies to all SalMar farming operations and supply chains. It covers all stages of the salmon lifecycle and all feed ingredients used in production.

Governance and Accountability

Roles and Responsibilities

The Board of Directors holds ultimate responsibility for compliance with GMO and growth hormone regulations. The Executive Management ensures that all sourcing and production practices adhere to applicable laws and SalMar’s internal standards.

The Feed department verify that all feed suppliers comply with GMO-free requirements and relevant legislation. Operational teams ensure that no growth hormones are used in farming practices. Compliance is monitored through audits.

Monitoring and Reporting

SalMar monitors compliance through supplier certifications, internal audits, and traceability systems. Compliance is confirmed annually and disclosed in SalMar’s sustainability reporting.

Strategic Framework and Targets

SalMar’s strategy is to maintain 100% GMO-free feed and zero use of growth hormones across all operations. The company works closely with suppliers to ensure full compliance with EU and Norwegian regulations and continuously evaluates new feed solutions that support sustainability without compromising these commitments.

Targets

SalMar aims to maintain zero use of GMO and growth hormones across all operations, and to ensure 100% compliance with relevant legislation and certification standards.

Operational Measures

SalMar prohibits the use of GMO and growth hormones in all farming practices and feed production. All feed suppliers must provide documentation confirming compliance with EU and Norwegian GMO regulations. Internal audits and supplier reviews are conducted regularly to ensure adherence to this policy.
